If you sit or walk in mindfulness meditation, you may notice that all the sensations come and go, changing in space. These phenomena are like clouds in the sky.
In the space within, around, and between phenomena is presence. Presence is only available in the here and now. Right now, if you like, gently close your eyes and breathe, placing about 25% of your attention on the out-breath. On the in-breath and in between breaths, have a mindful moment, bringing your attention to space. The essence, the suchness of presence, is to me quite subtle, and is more in awareness of space than time. In my experience, presence is a poem not prose; it’s a texture not a taste; it’s the aftermath not the beforehand.
