Zen and Kinematics

I went to Yosemite National Park, and I saw some huge waterfalls. The highest of these is 1430 feet high, and from it water comes down like a curtain thrown from the top of the mountain…it seems to come down very slowly because of the distance…it takes time you know, a long time, for the water to finally reach the bottom of the waterfall.

Shunryu Suzuki, Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind, p. 82

How long does it take for the water to reach the bottom? I calculate this in the article. In Zen terms, it is indeed a very long time, especially considering the Zen sudden understanding, satori.
